CITY OF SAUSALITO

GENERAL PLAN UPDATE AND EIR

In February of 2021, the Sausalito City Council unanimously adopted the 2040 General Plan and certified the EIR after four years of work! As the lead consultant on the project, M-Group led the policy update and a robust community engagement effort to develop a clear vision for the 20-year planning horizon.

The update adds two additional Elements to Sausalito’s General Plan. The Waterfront and Marinship Element provides a greater focus on the city’s shoreline environments while the Sustainability Element provides policy guidance for climate change, resiliency, and the impacts of sea level rise. Together, the General Plan’s Elements reflect the city’s commitment to tackling tough questions around what it means to be a 21st-century city.

The outreach effort began with developing the outreach program in collaboration with city staff. The program was designed to reach and engage as much of the community as possible. To solicit the involvement of the Sausalito public, M-Group conducted Community Workshops, Pop-up Workshops, Walking Tours, Stakeholder meetings, and informal Coffee Chats. With the outbreak of Covid-19 amidst the General Plan Update process, M-Group nimbly adapted to virtual workshops and meetings for the later phases of the project.

Communication being a key aspect of engaging with the community, M-Group regularly published local newsletter articles documenting the General Plan status and upcoming tasks. M-Group also created a General Plan website as the hub for chronicling the project and keeping the public connected to the project.
